Measuring Instructions
Tools Required
- Plain Paper 8 x 11”
- Fabric Tape Measure
- Foot Measuring Device (Ritz or Brannock)
- Pen or Marker
- Pedograph
- Calipers
- Instructions

Step 1 Seat patient comfortably with feet resting on the floor and lower legs perpendicular to the floor. *All measurements should be taken with socks on. |

Step 2 Place foot on paper and trace around the foot holding the marker at 90°. Using a tape measure, measure the circumference around the 1st and 5th metatarsal heads (ball). |

Steps 3 and 4 Measure circumference of metatarsals just proximal to metatarsal head (waist). Measure circumference around navicular and cuboid (instep). |

Steps 5 and 6 Measure circumference around calcaneus to anterior surface of subtalar joint (heel). Measure circumference around the leg at a point 10 cm from the floor and again at a height corresponding to the height of the boots. |

Steps 7 and 8 Measure height of toes. Measure length and width (weight bearing). |
